Saint Mary’s School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 9–12. Saint Mary’s School is currently searching for a Groundskeeper who will be responsible for performing duties that will assist in the basic upkeep of campus grounds. The Groundskeeper will report directly to the Groundskeeping Supervisor.

 Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Groundskeeping Supervisor.

  • Safe operation of equipment such as the small farm tractor, the lawn tractor, push mower, weed eater, edger, blower, hedge clippers, and a variety of hand tools which are used to maintain a neat and uniform appearance to all turf, trees, shrubs, flowers, bed, and all hard surfaces in and around the campus.
  • Use all tools and equipment according to directions.
  • Maintain and repair all the grounds keeping equipment as instructed.
  • Mow grass.
  • Blow walks and parking lots.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals as instructed.
  • Edge walkways, curbs, and parking lots.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems as needed.
  • Wear all common protective or safety equipment, such as slip resistant shoes, steel toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection or hard hats as assigned for your position based on the training and instruction provided by your supervisor.
  • Assist with the application of fertilizers, weed control, mulch, and bedding materials.
  • Assist with cleaning the grounds from weather storms including the removal of snow and ice throughout the campus.
  • Serve as part of the severe weather emergency team.
  • Occasional weekend or evening responsibilities.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed.

  • Must be able to work well with other staff members and be courteous with the public.
  • Must observe safety procedures and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be dependable (consistently at work and on time) and have the ability to follow instructions. 

Physical Activities / Environmental Demands:

  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to reach overhead.
  • Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to drive and operate various lawn equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Requires a high school diploma/G.E.D certificate and 2+ years of horticulture experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
